Pour la 5e année, des élèves du secondaire de Rochambeau participent à la Simulation des Nations Unies (Model UN), c’est-à-dire une simulation des travaux de l’Assemblée générale ou d’autres organisations des Nations Unies. L'équipe formée de 18 lycéens se rendra à New York du 23 au 26 mars où ils rejoindront des milliers d’autres élèves venus des quatre coins du monde pour discuter de sujets mondiaux et défendre leurs positions. 

Ainsi, tout en jouant leur rôle d'ambassadeurs, les élèves délégués se mettront dans la peau de diplomates et négocieront afin de parvenir à l’adoption par consensus d’une résolution sur l’un des sujets proposés. Cette année, la délégation de Rochambeau s'est vu attribuer le Pakistan. Ainsi, les élèves délégués traivailleront en équipe afin de résoudre des problèmes mondiaux liés aux changements climatiques, aux droits de l'homme, à la jeunesse, etc., à partir des politiques et des perspectives du Pakistan.

Préparation à la conférence de Simulation des Nations Unies  

Les élèves de Rochambeau ont travaillé tout au long de l'année pour préparer leur participation à cette conférence. Lors de leurs réunions hebdomadaires après l'école, les élèves ont effectué des recherches sur divers problèmes mondiaux et ont travaillé en équipe. Ensemble, ils ont rédigé leur document de préparation (ou position paper) et l'ont envoyé au comité de relecture du National High School Model United Nations. Ce document résume la connaissance du sujet et la position que leur pays – soit le Pakistan - prévoit adopter selon les différents sujets de cette conférence. Recherche, prise de parole en public, rédaction, pensée critique, travail d'équipe ou encore leadership, voilà autant de compétences et d’habiletés que les élèves développent ou acquièrent tout au long du projet. C’est également pour eux l'occasion de se familiariser avec la diplomatie, les relations internationales et les Nations Unies.

Model UN : Rochambeau to attend Model United Nations Conference in NYC

For the 5th year, Rochambeau High School students are participating in the Model United Nations, (MUN) Conference, a simulation of the work of the General Assembly or other United Nations organizations. The team of 18 high school students will travel to New York City from March 23 - 26 where they will join thousands of other students from around the world to discuss global topics and defend their proposed policy positions for various countries.

While playing the role of ambassadors, the student delegates will put themselves in the shoes of diplomats and negotiate in order to achieve the adoption by consensus of a resolution on one of the proposed topics.This year, Rochambeau delegation has been assigned to represent the position of Pakistan. As such, student delegates will work as a team to develop policy proposals to solve global issues related to climate change, human rights, youth, etc., based on the policies and perspectives of Pakistan.

Preparation for the Model United Nations Conference  

Rochambeau students have worked throughout the year to prepare for their participation in this conference. In their weekly meetings after school, students conducted research on various global issues and practiced working as a team. They worked together to complete their position paper for this conference and submitted it to the National High School Model United Nations review committee. This paper summarizes the knowledge of the topic and the position that their country - Pakistan - plans to take on the different topics for this conference. (See below for the list of topics.)

Research, public speaking, writing, critical thinking, teamwork and leadership are all skills and abilities that students develop or acquire throughout the project. It is also an opportunity for them to learn more about diplomacy, international relations and the United Nations.
