Jacqueline Oury, élève de 1re à Rochambeau, a reçu un Gold Key à l’occasion des 2022 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. L’élève en option Art a remporté ce prix pour son œuvre numérique intitulée “Invisible Things: An Excerpt" dans la catégorie Design. Dans son œuvre, Jacqueline a choisi de transposer des concepts de physique pour illustrer des émotions, des relations interpersonnelles, jouant avec les mots, les formes et les couleurs. 

Une artiste aux multiples talents 

Interrogée à savoir depuis quand les arts font partie de sa vie, Jacqueline a mentionné, sourire aux lèvres : «Si vous demandez à mes parents, ils vous diront que je fais de l’art depuis que je suis née». Cependant, Jacqueline a mentionné que l’art est vraiment devenu à nouveau une passion au lycée grâce à sa professeure, Madame Angoulvant, aux côtés de qui elle a exploré une variété de techniques artistiques.

Les projets ne manquent pas pour cette élève curieuse et passionnée. Souhaitant donner vie à certains lieux de son école, Jacqueline s'est portée volontaire pour créer des peintures murales sur le campus. C'est dans la salle réservée à l'enseignement des arts que Jacqueline commence à peindre sa première murale qu’elle prévoit terminer dans les semaines à venir. 

Pour Jacqueline, une passion ne vient jamais seule. Outre l'art, la littérature fait aussi partie de ses centres d'intérêt. Elle a aussi participé au volet écriture du Scholastic Art and Writing Awards dans la catégorie "Personal Essay & Memoir" et a présenté "A Collection of Rest", composition pour laquelle elle a reçu une mention Honorable.

Un Gold Key et après? 

Après avoir reçu un Gold Key, les œuvres sont jugées à un niveau national. À New York, des experts de renom examineront les œuvres qui ont reçu un Gold Key provenant de tout le pays. Nous souhaitons à Jacqueline bonne chance dans cette nouvelle étape de la compétition.

Une autre étudiante reçoit un prix 

Milla Hebert, élève de 4e, a aussi participé au concours et a reçu un Silver Key pour son texte The Wait dans la catégorie Science fiction et fantastique ainsi que quatre Honorable mention pour ses textes A.Eye. et The Apocalypse (catégorie Science fiction et fantastique) et Songs Sung To Supernovae (catégorie Poésie).

À propos des Scholastic Art and Writing Awards 

Il s'agit du programme de reconnaissance le plus ancien et le plus prestigieux pour les adolescents créatifs. Les adolescents âgés de 13 ans et plus peuvent soumettre des œuvres dans 28 catégories. Les œuvres sont sélectionnées sans tenir compte du sexe, de l'âge, de l'origine ethnique ou de la ville d'origine de l'élève par certains des plus grands leaders des arts visuels et littéraires. Les juges du concours recherchent des œuvres qui illustrent les critères suivants : originalité, compétences techniques et émergence d'une voix ou d'une vision personnelle.

Congratulations to Jacqueline Oury ’23

Jacqueline Oury, 11th grader, received a “Gold Key” recognition at the 2022 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. The student in our Art option program earned this prize for her digital work entitled “Invisible Things: An Excerpt" in the Design category.  In this piece, Jacqueline chose to transpose concepts of physics to illustrate emotions and interpersonal relationships, playing with words, shapes and colors.

A multi-talented artist 

When asked how long the arts have been part of her life, Jacqueline mentioned with a smile: “If you ask my parents, they will tell you that I have been making art since I was born.” However, Jacqueline mentioned that art really became a passion again in high school thanks to her art teacher, Mrs. Angoulvant, whose guidance has helped her explore a variety of  artistic techniques. 

Jaqueline enjoys the process of creating her pieces of art and is eager to share that joy with others. As a way for her to contribute to our school community and beauty, Jacqueline has volunteered to create murals on campus. She began painting her first mural in the art room, which she plans to complete in the coming weeks. 

Jacqueline also counts literature among her other creative interests.  She participated in the writing component of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition and submitted “A Collection of Rest” for consideration in the Personal Essay & Memoir category. For this piece, she received an Honorable Mention.

A Gold Key - and what next? 

After earning a “Gold Key” recognition, Jacqueline’s art piece will become part of this year’s national competition this spring. In New York City, renowned experts will review the Gold Key entries from across the country. We wish Jacqueline good luck in this next level of competition.

Additional Student Awards

About the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards 

This is the longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens.Teens age 13 and up may submit entries into 28 categories of creative competition. Entries are selected for awards without knowledge of the student’s gender, age, ethnicity, or hometown by some of the foremost leaders in the visual and literary arts. Competition judges look for works that exemplify the Awards’ core values: originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. Click here to learn more.
