Sur les Traces du Général Rochambeau | A Living History Lesson for our 8th graders

Le jeudi 16 octobre, notre établissement a eu l'honneur d'accueillir Mme de Gouberville, descendante du célèbre général de Rochambeau, dont notre école porte le nom. Tous nos élèves de 4e ont ainsi eu la chance de participer à une rencontre exceptionnelle.

Mme de Gouberville a partagé avec les élèves l'histoire fascinante de son ancêtre et son rôle crucial dans la guerre d'indépendance américaine. Elle a mis en lumière la relation particulière, à la fois stratégique et respectueuse, que le général Rochambeau entretenait avec George Washington.

Cette intervention a permis aux élèves de mieux comprendre les coulisses de l'alliance franco-américaine, qui fut déterminante pour la victoire, notamment lors de la bataille de Yorktown. Entendre ce récit de la part d'une descendante directe a rendu ce chapitre de l'histoire particulièrement tangible et mémorable pour nos élèves.

On Thursday, October 16, our school had the honor of welcoming Mrs. de Gouberville, a descendant of the famous General de Rochambeau, after whom our school is named. All of our 8th-grade students had the opportunity to participate in this exceptional meeting.

Mrs. de Gouberville shared the fascinating history of her ancestor with the students, detailing his crucial role in the American Revolutionary War. She highlighted the special relationship—both strategic and respectful—that General Rochambeau maintained with George Washington.

This presentation allowed students to better understand the inner workings of the Franco-American alliance, which was decisive in the victory, particularly at the Battle of Yorktown. Hearing this account from a direct descendant made this chapter of history especially tangible and memorable for our students.
