Libraries & Educational resources

The Libraries at Rochambeau’s Primary and Secondary Schools are dedicated to learning, to encouraging reflection on cultural, social, and civic events, and to providing resources that broaden the knowledge base and skills of both students and faculty.

Our Teacher-Librarians assist students of all ages and reading levels, taking into account school projects and individual interests. The libraries are also vibrant cultural centers that serve as a focal point for community events, student art exhibitions and meetings with guest speakers and professionals.

The Primary School Library serves Preschool through Elementary school and is located at the Maplewood campus (preschool through 5th grade).

The Secondary School Library (CDI, Centre d'Information et de Documentation) serves both Middle and High schools and is located at the Forest Road Campus (6th-12th grade).

In both libraries, reading materials are available that cater for particular needs and reading abilities, such as books for children with dyslexia, large-type books, audio books, and literary resources in several languages (French, English, Arabic, Spanish and German).

Together, both libraries hold more than 20,000 books, including picture books, comic books, audio books, non-fiction, magazines, newspapers, early grade readers and novels both in print and online.

Primary school Library

The primary school library at Rochambeau is designed to encourage children to read for pleasure - that is its fundamental mission. In addition to being a center of knowledge for young learners and avid readers, the library is also a treasure trove of high-quality children’s literature and non-fiction resources. In addition, the library acts as a meeting space where students can connect with visiting author-illustrators and other professionals, such as scientists and journalists, and frequently hosts student art exhibitions.

Every month, the Preschool classes (starting age 3 in Petite Section) spend designated time at the Maplewood library. These periods nurture a love of books and reading for pleasure in even the youngest students.

The primary school library is open to students during school hours (8:30 am-3:30 pm, Monday-Friday). Each class enjoys a dedicated weekly period to go to the library simply to read, or to check out books, magazines, DVDs, and audiobooks from a collection of more than 12,000 works. Elementary school students are free to come to the library alone during morning and afternoon recess. Starting in CP (first grade), each student can check out up to 4 books at a time.

Secondary School Library

The Secondary Library at Forest Road campus (CDI) expands students’ literary culture and provides the resources and pedagogical material they need to research classroom projects and teacher-assigned topics. At secondary level, students are taught research skills, how to manage information, and how to utilize correctly and effectively both print & online resources. Working with students of different grades and teachers, teacher-librarians transform the library into a space of positive collaboration, nurturing curiosity and true respect for one another.

Understanding the impact and value of real-world experience in students’ academic curriculum, our Teacher-Librarians arrange guest speaker events and presentations throughout the year to illustrate study themes.

The secondary library is available to students, teachers, staff, and parents from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday. It acts as a multipurpose space, hosting musical performances, parent meetings and art exhibits to enrich and extend the library’s role in the Rochambeau community.

You will find there essentially the great classics of French and foreign literature from Antiquity to the 19th century, some works studied in French classes, and a few poetry, theater, short stories ... all this classified by alphabetical name of the author.
